Parkwood Hybrid

A new hybrid on the block this time for Parkwood Guitars and comes with an endorsement from Greg Howe. Strangely enough the guitar isn't actuallly mentioned on the Parkwood website yet but you can see a demonstration of the Hybrid on his site here. This is the fourth hybrid of I've seen on the market recently, see my previous posts about the Taylor T5, Ovation VXT and the Michael Kelly Hybrids. They all sound and look great so I think you would really need to try them all out and see which feels the best for your needs.

That is a sweet looking axe. Hybrids, huh. Best of both worlds? Worst of both? I wonder.

Yeah I've got to say that is one of the nicer looking hybrids I've seen, I'd like to try one to see how they play. I know it seems that these are a new concept but I'm sure I remember Godin bringing out a hybrid in the 80's??

Does anyone remember a guitar by Aria Pro called the Express II (2)?

This guitar, that came out in the mid 80's was a the first "Hybrid" that I can remember. Strat shaped with a kahler tremolo. I haven't seen it since.

I tried out the new Parkwood Hybrid last night at Guitar Center on El Toro. They had just gotten them in the day before. I noticed that there were two models. (It's important to note that one model has Seymour Duncan pickups and the other does not.) I played the ones with Seymours. I was not expecting a lot, as I've been disappointed with other brands who have tried to create a great hybrid guitar. I was happily surprised. This thing felt great, the pickups were killer, and it wasn't too hard to figure out how to get your favorite tones. Within a half hour, I had it totally dialed in to the six main tones I wanted. I played it through two different amps. A Fender Deluxe (one 12" speaker) and the new Roland acoustic amp (I think it was called the AC60- wonderful amp!) The guitar was strong in both of them. The only thing that bugged me is that on the inside of the "F" holes, the finish was crummy- (that would take about two minutes for the factory to fix- come on guys!). But other than that little whine on my part, I was duly impressed with what Parkwood has put out. The Koa model was breathtakingly beautiful and shape of the F holes look really cool. I'll probably add one of these to my collection. Try it- you'll like it.

I test drove both versions at the Guitar Center in Tallahassee, FL. I agree with the previous post. The guitar is really nice, but the inside of the finish was a bit rough as if the router tore up the inside of the shell during fabrication.

The neck played great and the sounds were amazing. Very versatile! FYI...the more expensive wood-grain model is made out of Australian Blackwood - not Koa.

I just checked out the Parkwood Hybrid at Guitar Center in Naperville, IL. Please note: Made in Indonesia! I thought the fit & finish was very rough, esp. neck joint, and was very disappointed. Interior route looked fine, but f-holes were very plain without binding. Nice concept, but at $999 I think it is very overpriced. I'm still waiting! Chuck S.
