StevieSnacks.com Blues Guitar Lessons

Posted by Jon in • Guitar Sites,

I’ve been following Anthony from StevieSnacks.com for a while on YouTube (gr8bluesgtr) and I wanted to share the great lessons that are available. Not only does Anthony teach guitar licks lessons but he also goes into detail about concepts behind licks too such as the example above. Also Anthony teaches beyond guitar lessons such as how to get a great tone and how amplifiers work for instance check out the video titled “Tube Amps 3: Preamp And Power Tubes” for a great in-depth lesson on how to use the preamp and power amp to get the tone you want.

StevieSnacks.com offer a range of Free and Premium guitar lessons which are divided up into various categories and difficulty levels, there is a nice flow chart which helps you find exactly the kind of lesson you are after here - http://www.steviesnacks.com/premium-lessons/ the price of lessons varies depending on the DVD Series you wish to purchase but it averages at around $21 per DVD (also available as a downloadable HD video). Of course there are loads of free lessons too and they are all great and varied, I’m surprised he gives away so much for free!  If you are thinking of entering the Guitar Noize Blue Noize solo contest, these lessons would be a great way to improve your entry!

Anthony is a top class blues guitar player and teacher, as the site name suggests his style does have a large Stevie Ray Vaughan influence and some lessons focus on complete tracks such as “Texas Flood” and “Lenny” but even the SRV flavoured lessons can be adapted to your own style of playing. Make sure you check out Anthony’s gear demos too, it’s amazing seeing how a Fender Blues Junior sounds in the right hands!

Head over to www.steviesnacks.com for more info.

Also check out the StevieSnacks.com unofficial Blue Noize Blues Solo contest entry (I personally think it should be official but I’ll leave that up to Anthony)

DBZ Experience

Posted by Jon in • Cool Guitars, Guitar Sites,

DBZ Guitars by Dean Zelinsky have just updated their website now offering a fullscreen flash version called Experience, “eeek!” I hear you iPad users cry, yeah well complain to Steve Jobs not Dean! The site offers stunning massive hi-res photography of the DBZ Collection which have some of the craziest CNC programming you’ll see on a guitar, plus some very cool hardware too. The only bad UI problem I found (aside from the fact that it is flash dependant of course) is that when you open the latest news or contact info you have to click on the navigation button to close the overlay rather than having a close button within it!?

This site could easily have been created using html/css & javascript which wouldn’t alienate iPad users but aside from that this site is a great way to check out the DBZ Range.

Free lesson and Jam Track from GuitarInstructor.com

Posted by Jon in • Guitar Instruction, Guitar Sites,

GuitarInstructor.com is giving you not only a free blues rock licks lesson (with on screen TAB) with Troy Stetina (author of Fretboard Mastery & Speed Mechanics) which is a great demonstration of the content available on GuitarInstructor.com, but they are are also giving away a free jam track for one of my favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan songs “Cold Shot”, click here for the free jam track.

This jam track, like all of our audio play-along songs, was professionally recorded, mixed, and mastered, to provide the highest possible audio quality and thus the most realistic jamming experience outside of having Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon in the room with you! The version presented here contains no guitar, thus allowing you to step into the mighty shoes of the Texas Tornado.

Ibanez Prestige microsite

Posted by Jon in • Guitar Sites,

Ibanez Guitars have launched a microsite specifically for their Prestige range including the latest RGD and RGA ranges. I’m not exactly sure why they have done this after all the Prestige range is just the “normal” ranges made in Japan rather than the cheap ranges made in Indonesia, it’s not like it is the custom shop (try even searching for J-Custom’s on Google and you don’t even get a link to a site in the first few pages). What is even more confusing is that if you use the top menu it links to the main Japanese Ibanez site anyway so you immediately navigate away from the microsite?! I think Ibanez really should have just overhauled their main site rather than confuse customers with a separate one, the new microsite shows off the Prestige guitars much better than the main site so why not use this style across the board? Just a thought.

Check out the Prestige microsite here:

Build your own Band website in minutes

Posted by Jon in • Guitar Sites,

Do you have a band? Does your band have a website? Well if not I could save you a lot of hassle trying to organise getting your site designed and developed. What bandwebsitetheme.com have done is create a theme for Wordpress which will quickly and easily allow you to create not only a custom website but also the ability to sell your music and merchandise and hook the site up to all of your social networks.

bandwebsitetheme.com have created widget-ready sections of the website where you can add social media features such as your latest tweets from Twitter, recent photos from Flickr, your latest YouTube videos or your top tracks from Last.fm.

The tour dates section is cool as it allows you to add not only each tour date but a link to buy tickets and a button that allows your users to add the date to Google Calendar or download for iCal.

Build a band website is built to work with a great free music player plugin that will allow you to quickly and easily play music on your site via a slick looking mp3 player. Simply install the plugin, customize and add your songs.

As a bonus you also get the free guide, “65 Ways to Promote Your Music Online”, delivered to you by email when you purchase the theme, which costs $37.

If you think your band would benefit from its own professional looking website check out the build a band website website and Guitar Noize readers who purchase the theme before April 1 2010 can get 10% off by using the following promo code: guitarnoize.

ESP Guitars commemorate 35 years with new site for 2010

Posted by Jon in • Guitar Sites,

The ESP Guitar Company began as a small custom shop started by Japanese businessman Hisatake Shibuya making replacement parts and accessories. In 1985, ESP began building entire custom guitars for special customers. By 1986, ESP’s guitars had an office in New York City making custom guitars for players in the US. Dokken’s George Lynch and Metallica’s Kirk Hammett chose ESP to build new guitars to their respective specifications, and the company quickly became the first choice for rock and metal players who wanted more than an off-the-shelf axe could deliver.

In 2010 ESP Guitars commemorate 35 years of being in business, quite a milestone, they now distribute guitars to 60 countries around the world and since 1996 have offered their Korean and Indonesian manufactured LTD models at a lower price in order to gain even more market share.

The new site is really just a re-skin of the old site but the new lick of paint is a welcome update, it’s a shame that the only new models announced are Asian made LTD’s.
