Rig Rundown: John Konesky of Tenacious D

Posted by Jon in • Rig Rundown,

Check out this video from Total Guitar with John Konesky of Tenacious D talking about his guitars including his BC Rich Mockinbird and special Flying V from EA Games which is a perfect accompaniment to the Pick of Destiny
!. You also get a glimpse of his pedal board and I managed to identify the following pedals (which may well be incorrect!), anyone care to help me out with the missing stomps?

RMC Wizard Wah
Maxon AD999 Delay
Ibanez TS808 & TS9 -(or could be a Maxon OD9)
MXR Phase 90 (or 45)
Boss Tuner??

There are 2 others that I don’t recognise?

Thanks to Total Guitar for posting this rig rundown.

Deftones' Stephen Carpenter - Rig Rundown

Posted by Jon in • Rig Rundown,

Premier Guitar recently caught up with Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter to check out his live rig, it is interesting to see that not only does he use a nice collection of MXR, Z.Vex and CAE analogue pedals but he also runs Native Instruments Guitar Rig in parallel from a laptop, which for some reason is version 3 not the latest and greatest version. The setup also includes the Marshall JMP-1 preamp running into 2 Marshall Power Amps.

Alex Lifeson introduces his Hughes & Kettner Steam Punk rig

Posted by Jon in • Guitar Legends, Rig Rundown,

Alex Lifeson, the legendary guitarist with Canadian Rock Giants RUSH introduces us to his “astonishing” new Hughes & Kettner “Steam Punk” rig just as RUSH embark on their “Time Machine over America” 2010 tour. The interview took place in Sony Film Studios, Culver City Los Angeles California at the final pre-production rehearsals for the “Time Machine” tour.

These amps look brilliant, like a giant set of old wireless radios crossed with a Jukebox, bizarre!

Tech guru Thomas Nordegg runs through his mind-bending guitar setup

Posted by Jon in • Rig Rundown,

Guitar tech to Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa and originally Frank Zappa has one of the craziest and to me most confusing setups I have ever seen, I think you would need about a year to learn how to work everything but it would be a lot of fun!

Joe Bonamassa rig rundown for Harmony Central

Posted by Jon in • Guitar Legends, Rig Rundown,

I always love seeing what Joe Bonamassa is using and it’s cool to see Joe talking to Harmony Central in these 3 videos about, among other things, his Candy Apple Blue Les Paul which I had a chance to see up close when I met Joe Bonamassa in March, from a distance it actually looks black especially in dim lighting as we were in at the Factory Theatre but when you get up close you see the blue tint. There aren’t many people whose rig is discussed as much as Joe’s because of his 4 amp setup which he told me he calls the “monster rig” but when he explains it it is a very simple concept. I’m not sure of the age of this interview as Joe changes his setup often but it is definitely from before the Sydney gig in March when his #52 got broken by Delta airlines (check out my write up for more info) and I haven’t seen this combination of amp heads for a while but the concept is always the same with regards to which heads he chooses. He told me the key to his sound was the EV 12L Speakers which he says don’t get as flubby as Celestions and keep that dark, punchy midrange sound that is his signature. Joe goes into great detail in these videos so enjoy!
