Gibson launch the Dusk Tiger
Posted by Jon in • Guitar News,

Well you have probably already heard about this guitar as Gibson have already made some bold statements about the technology and hardware featured on what is quite a deviation in looks from the standard Les Paul, but what will the public think of this limited edition robot guitar? Well already there are mixed feelings and this is inevitable with such an adventurous design, fans of the classic Les Paul design disklike the crescent shaped pickguard and pickup surround which hangs down like some sort of metallic moustache! The top of the guitar is made from Grade A Marble wood which has a distinctive grain, a kind of burnt look and the tone-chambered mahogany back has a Tiger Skin nitrocellulose finish which wouldn’t look out of place on the top of a George Lynch guitar. The top of the guitar is flat rather than arched which Gibson say give the guitar a contemporary update, although it is more likely to lower the production cost. So what is the difference between Dusk Tiger and Dark Fire, well check out some of the key features below:
Dusk Tiger retains the tonal purity achieved through analog technology, but expands on Dark Fire’s nine iconic tones by offering not just advanced coil switching/tapping/phase flipping, but an ultra-low-noise, programmable on-board multiband EQ controlled by flexible editing software. Guitarists can take full advantage of Dusk Tiger’s exquisite onboard tones, but also create their own variations and signature sounds.
Sound Select mode… [gives] you a wide variety of sounds from the classic ‘58 Les Paul or the rich, full sound of the 335, to a country twang or a funky sharp rhythm guitar. The presets will even allow the round and full tone of a Gibson Acoustic
Dusk Tiger’s Chameleon Tone-Editing Software allows you to create your own Chameleon tones and tunings simply connect your guitar to the RIP box and activate the MCK. With a few clicks of the mouse, you can change each string’s note or frequency, as well as switch between pickup types including single-coil, double-coil, double-coil out of phase, and double-coil parallel. The possibilities are unlimited with 4 Band EQ customization of your magnetic and piezo pickups.
