My 2nd guitar back in '88!
Posted by Jon in • Cool Guitars
Here it is, my 2nd guitar that I owned back in 1988. Yes it is pink, and no I don’t know what I was thinking but hey I was 12 years old in the height of 80’s rock, I mean nobody ever questioned Poison! Well, not at first anyway…
So here are the stats of this little rock machine. The neck was hard rock maple with a really nice easy access heel joint, the body is, and I quote from their 1988 catalogue, “solid wood”. Ahem… The pickups are Alnico, yes another vague description so I’m assuming they made them in house? You can check out the catalogue page here if you don’t believe me. Oh and remember this only cost about 200 english pounds so it was pretty good for the money. The locking trem was good, intonation was good and once I replaced the humbucker with a DiMarzio Vai model it sounded pretty cool too!
Coming up soon, my 3rd guitar I evolved in my taste from pink to purple… no really.
Clicking on ads has been proven to make you a better guitar player, just wanted to put that out there...

What’s wrong with it? I love the color, it is a guitar right? I remember I was in love with a red Fender that was on top of a commercial card some years ago, some Route 66 thing. It was an older car, 2-3 teenagers and a red Fender, God I loved that image. By the way, my guitar is black now, but I have a green acoustic one. Does it count for anything?
Hey, It looks like a sweet axe to me. The 80’s Rocked! I had a Honda dirt bike that was kinda pink and my dad teased the hell out of me. lol
Haha, thanks guys it was actually a really great guitar for the price although when I upgraded to an Ibanez I really felt the difference in build quality! Now, about that green acoustic, is that the Vai Ibanez?
Purple is totally okay in my book. I love Kirk Hammett’s purple ESP!
The Westone GT was the follow-on to the Phoenix Electra, which was a pretty incredible guitar in 1985. I had a red one with fabulous playability and excellent pickups and electronics. It didn’t have the sound I prefer now but it was fantastic. Stolen in Oregon by meth-heads.
Damn meth-heads, thats a real shame, I’d like to have a play on this old guitar now to see how it holds up but alas I sold it to buy the ibanez!
thanks
thank you
