NAMM 2008 - Vox Virage
Posted by Jon in • Cool Guitars,

When I first saw these a few days ago I wasn’t particularly interested, to me they looked like another hollowbody guitar that wasn’t anything particularly new or unique. That was until I actually took the time to check out Voxamps.co.uk, which by the way is a very nicely designed website. It turns out that the Virage has a little trick up its sleeve and that is the ergonomic design!
“ Using advanced three–dimensional carving techniques, both models come to you smoothly curved and deliciously contoured for perfect balance and unparalleled playability. Whether sitting or standing this new ergonomic design gives you incredible solid body comfort while sustaining that sublime semi–hollow sound and feel“

How nice does that look! It actually wraps around the contours of your body! Vox have really gone to town on these guitars, they have created their own pickups called the Three-90™ Triple Coil Pickup which is analog circuitry throughout for total noiseless operation in all modes and is apparently like having a single-coil, a P90 and a Humbucker all in one. The guitar also features a custom designed Aluminium bridge which weighs in at just 2 ounces but transfers maximum string information to the body through solid contact with the steel height adjusting posts. From listening to the examples of the guitar in different situations on the Virage microsite it certainly seems quite a versatile instrument and has very nice clean sounds and crunchy rocks sounds, I’m not so convinced by the metal example but some people probably like that sound.

Hey, that’s a cool looking guitar! Thanks for posting this. Let me know if you get to try it out.
