The Nautilus

The Nautilus
I couldn’t include the original Steampunk guitar, The Villanizer without posting about The Nautilus. You will probably recognise which guitar this custom began life as, it is a Dean ML model that has been given the same treatment as The Villanizer, including cogs, rust, brass/copper pipes and fittings and a “...blue plasma lightning dish where electrical effects jolt around from the center, either continuously or sound activated.” How cool is that!

There is also a video of this guitar in action on the main info page.

That much metal must effect the sustain and tone. From the vid you can’t tell because of the effects. When Ibanez first made the JS chrome model Satch said they had to mess about loads to get it right because the sound was initially rubbish.

Also, probably not good on the back!

This steampunk stuff is gettin’ old.

James, actually it doesnt effect it at all. Everything by in large is only appliqued to the body therefore not effecting tone nor sustain. The only thing I can say that I did that effected any part of the guitar was to reset the neck. Dean’s are fine guitars, but theyre quality control for necks is lacking IMO. Once I did that it played like a different piece. Not light, but no more heavy then a Les Paul. Steampunk stuff isnt for everyone, and the next series will be anything but. Still radical as all hell. wink
