You probably saw my review of the Chickenfoot’s album back in July which I had mixed feelings about due to having very high expectations. I expected a lot simply because Joe Satriani is one of the biggest influences to me as a guitarist and Michael Anthony played in one of the best rock band lineups of all time in early Van Halen. I also grew up with Van Halen Sammy Hagar era so all in all I was hoping for the album of the century and to be honest was left wanting.
The Deluxe edition of the Chickenfoot album which was released by earMusic on November 9th however does redeem itself to me as it comes with a DVD containing 50 minutes of live footage and interviews. Chickenfoot were always going to be a great live band with the experienced front man Sammy Hagar doing what he does best and the decades of experience form Michael Anthony and Chad Smith pounding the rhythm section. Of course with Joe on guitar duties it is all the more enjoyable for me, I love watching Joe play and it seems a long time since I’ve seen him standing in front of a trio of Marshall half stacks! Some of the tracks are completely live footage with live audio and some are the actual music videos and others are a mixture of live footage and studio footage. The live recordings are great quality, both video and audio and I personally think if you are going to buy the album then you might as well get this version because it is worth the extra few dollars just to get this DVD.
