Joe Bonamassa is probably the only guitarist I’ve ever known to have multiple signature guitars and amps at the same time with different manufacturers. I’m not sure how he does this but good on him not being tied down to one endorsement all the time. To start with there is a Joe Bonamassa Les Paul, a beautiful aged Goldtop. Although that doesn’t stop him playing a Gigliotti GT Custom, a Music Man John Petrucci Baritone, Music Man Steve Morse Y2D and a custom Music Man double-neck.
Then there are the amps, there is a signature Carol Ann JB-100, 2 signature Category 5 amps the JB-100 and JB-50 then of course Joe uses a Van Weelden amp and a Marshall Silver Jubilee.
Now Joe is experimenting with a Bogner Ecstasy and according to this excellent show review from WoodyTone Joe has Bogner building him a custom amp, could this be another signature head? The Bogner will replace the Category 5 head so he will stick with the 4 head set up. Always looks way too complicated for me and I like this quote from Joe about Clapton taken from the pre-show Bogner clinic again thanks to WoodyTone:
Joe said [regarding the Albert Hall gig] Clapton brought a signature model Strat and a tweed Fender Twin Reissue, which was stock '“ 'œI looked at it,' Joe said. 'œHe had a Monster cable, plugged straight in and started playing '“ and it was instantly the Blues Breakers. It was inspirational So it doesn't really matter what [equipment] you play. It's how you actually feel it and what comes out.'
Yeah… but its always nice to have loads of gear.
