I always love seeing what Joe Bonamassa is using and it’s cool to see Joe talking to Harmony Central in these 3 videos about, among other things, his Candy Apple Blue Les Paul which I had a chance to see up close when I met Joe Bonamassa in March, from a distance it actually looks black especially in dim lighting as we were in at the Factory Theatre but when you get up close you see the blue tint. There aren’t many people whose rig is discussed as much as Joe’s because of his 4 amp setup which he told me he calls the “monster rig” but when he explains it it is a very simple concept. I’m not sure of the age of this interview as Joe changes his setup often but it is definitely from before the Sydney gig in March when his #52 got broken by Delta airlines (check out my write up for more info) and I haven’t seen this combination of amp heads for a while but the concept is always the same with regards to which heads he chooses. He told me the key to his sound was the EV 12L Speakers which he says don’t get as flubby as Celestions and keep that dark, punchy midrange sound that is his signature. Joe goes into great detail in these videos so enjoy!
