I stumbled across this little gem the other day and had to share, the blog Random Chatter Music has collated audio recordings from Paul Gilbert’s VIP lessons and turned it into a free downloadable pdf eBook full of great tab examples and words of wisdom from the shredmeister himself. There are lots of insights into Paul’s technique and approaches to phrasing and writing. Even if you are not a big fan of Paul Gilbert this is still a really great read, and did I mention it is free?!
For those of you who might not be familiar with me or this project: At the beginning of the 2008 Euro tour, it was announced that Paul would have these VIP lessons, and that it was OK to bring an audio recorder. I thought 'œit would be cool if I compiled these in to some sort of guitar lesson book, if I could get some recordings. I bet I'd learn a lot.' So, all that transpired. This project took about 48 hours to complete, over the course of almost 4 months. It is for education only'¦ it is not marketing, salesmanship, etc. The book is composed of topics which Paul actually taught to students in these lessons, left within that context. Some of the advice he is giving to these people took him a lifetime to realize and articulate. It is a unique and poignant glimpse in to the thoughts, mind, and creative process of one of the most humble and respected rock guitarists of our modern times.
48 pages in PDF format. Very richly illustrated with lots of tab, photos, etc.
