The Tonewood-Amp is a very interesting product that was well received at Summer NAMM 2014 and will soon be available to pre-order via a Kickstarter Campaign. You can probably see from the video above how it works but in case you missed it the Tonewood-Amp takes the output signal from an acoustic guitar (yes you need an on-board preamp or magnetic pickup on your Acoustic), this signal is then processed with for example delay, then the processed signal is fed back into the body of the guitar and out via the soundhole.
The way you attach the Tonewood-Amp to your guitar is by using a Magnetic Rail system, there is a Locking system still under development but there aren’t any details about that at this time other than that it will be a type of clamp. The Magnetic Rails’ system is made of two thin flat metal-enclosed-in-plastic rails which is attached to the back of the guitar using a non-permanent adhesive tape, this method will not damage or leave any residue on the guitar. The rails’ install is quick and easy and will allow you to add/remove the ToneWoodAmp to and from your guitar in seconds.

Not only does the ToneWood-Amp include a powerful internal DSP for instant effects (Reverb, Echo, Delay, Tremolo and more..) it also includes an audio interface for iDevices allowing access to endless effects and even virtual MIDI apps.
“The overall sound result which you hear is a combined sound of the natural guitar sound plus the ToneWoodAmp effects vibrating through the guitar’s body. Our sound philosophy is based on the idea that the natural guitar sound is at the front, and in the lead, while the ToneWoodAmp effects are supplementing it. This concept makes sure that a rich natural guitar sound is alway at the core.
ToneWoodAmp produces “Fully Wet” effects so very little of the source sound (if any) get reproduced, just the effect itself. The combined results of natural real guitar sound + pure spatial effects vibrating via the guitar body itself creates this unique sound experience.”
I think this a very clever product because of the way that it blends the effected sound with the natural sound of an acoustic guitar. I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a product like this before and hope they get the funding they need from their upcoming Kickstarter campaign as this product definitely deserves to be on the market.
